Top NHL Betting Picks For Wednesday, February 23rd (2022)
Top NHL Picks for Wednesday February 23rd, 2022
Wednesday night’s National Hockey league feature two of the leagues most elite teams. In four of the five games on Tuesday, the favorite is placing at least +160 on the moneyline.
Tampa Bay will host Edmonton. Although the Oilers have been playing better ever since their coaching change the Oilers’ goaltending has been a struggle. Colorado will travel from Colorado to Detroit and they’ll be the rare road favourite, laying -300. The only matchup the books call a toss-up has two of NHL’s worst teams. Buffalo will travel to Montreal to face the Canadiens. It may be the best game we have ever seen.
I have a total as well as a side for tonight’s ice-skating session. Let’s get to it.
Bet $10, Win $200 when Oilers or Lightning Score a goal >>
Montreal Canadiens ML (-110; Caesars)
There weren’t many reasons to back this year’s Habs, but Martin St. Louis, their new coach has been a big reason. It’s almost like I’m old writing that. St. Louis used to be one of the best players in the NHL last week. Now, he’s revived the most historic franchise in the league from their worst start in years.
St. Louis began his tenure in Montreal just like Dominique Ducharme ended, and it was filled with losing. The Canadiens lost all three of St. Louis’s games, but there was an immediate improvement in their performance. They also showed more energy. That’s how St. Louis started his career in this league. Montreal has won three consecutive championships and hasn’t lost to the NHL’s bottom feeders. They defeated the Blues in overtime, beating the Islanders 3–2 in a shootout. Then they beat the Maple Leafs 5–2 in a game which opened some eyes. Cole Caufield, their most important player has come to life.
I’m also pleased to see the Sabres lose against the soaring Canadiens. Buffalo is currently at 2–5–1 after their eight previous games. They have also been badly beaten the last three. They’ve been outscored 15% in their last three matches and haven’t beaten a team within the top 25 of points percentage since a win over Nashville on January 13.
Montreal is at its peak with 11 goals scored in their three previous wins. This is the perfect storm against Sabres who are losing goals. Montreal lost a meeting to Sabres about a week ago. While we don’t usually back the Canadiens heavily, this is the perfect moment to do so. Keep them at -115.
Dallas Stars / Winnipeg Jets Under 6 (-120; BetMGM)
While this is now the minimum for most casinos, it has been lowered to 5.5 by BetMGM members. However, this can still be played at 6 -120 by BetMGM members. My bare minimum wager is -125. I would not advise you to bet on any side of the total at 5.
If the playoffs had to begin today, neither Stars and Jets would be able to participate. Despite that, this match should have a playoff vibe because both sides are fighting for lives and trying not to be sold at trade deadline. The under is a good choice because it features fewer goals in intense matches.
Connor Hellebuyck might not be the Connor Hellebuyck people are used to seeing, but his team is not helping him much. His save percentage remains at.914, which is.002 below his career standard, and his goals versus are 2.80, 0.15 points below his lifetime average. He’s also saved 17.2 more goals than expected, which still ranks fifth in the NHL. The Jets totals have been slightly exaggerated by Hellebuyck’s fall. We won’t give in to the temptation, especially as he will be up against a young Dallas goaltender that has taken over a crowded position in the Lone Star State.
Jake Oettinger (first round pick out of Boston University) is just 23 years. However, his goaltending coaches said, “If you’re good enough you’re old enough.” Oettinger has a sparkling.921 save ratio, 2.34 goals against an average, and ranks among the top 20 in goals prevented above expectations despite splitting the crease much of the season with Braden Hodgson. Oettinger’s recent performance has been exceptional. He allowed just three goals and stopped 101 of the 104 shots that were sent.
Neither team is great at putting pucks in the net. Winnipeg is 20th on the list for goals per games (2.88), with Dallas right behind at 21st (2.86). But neither team has really lit the lamp. The Stars have only six goals in their last four matches, while the Jets have only scored three times in the two games over the last week.
These two matches this season between these two teams have been to overtime so the final is slightly exaggerated. Although I like the under here (-125), it is important to shop around for other options. Tips for Getting Winning Hockey Picks
