More Uses For Your Tarokka Deck
Tarokkas or Random Tables
It doesn’t matter if you’re playing Curse of Strahd. You can draw cards directly from your Tarokka Deck instead of using random dice to generate encounters, treasure and more. I have made it very easy for both you and me by writing out the numbers in a table below.
Other than the d6 row, I am aware that these cards don’t match the same probability as a throw to an actual die. If this were an attack, damage, saving throw, ability check or saving throw, then I wouldn’t allow it. This table would be acceptable for a DM. It’s as good or better than you’d expect without adding more cards to the deck.
The best part about having players make these cards is the opportunity to find treasure and encounters. As you pull out the cards, ask the players to draw. This adds drama to the game. Psychologically, this shifts the burden of the result onto the player.
Take a look at the table below.

A Little Preview
This post is actually a preview for a DMs Guild product, which I am currently developing. It’s a Curse of Strahd-related encounter that involves a magic Tarokka card. For more information on this side trek, please wait until next week to see my game with Chris Perkins.
